Johanne Kristiansen is a PhD candidate in the Department of Language and Literature at NTNU. She comes from an interdisciplinary background in history, comparative literature and English studies, and works within the field of eighteenth-century British literary culture and political history. Her MA thesis on eighteenth-century periodicals and politics, entitled ‘Fighting for Reform: the Politicisation of the Monthly Review in the Aftermath of the French Revolution, 1791-1802’, won the Humanities Faculty ‘Best MA thesis’ award for 2013. Having been awarded a scholarship within the research project ‘Enlightenment News’, she is now able to continue research on eighteenth-century news mediation. She is currently working on a PhD thesis that explores the mutually constitutive relationship between British media and the public sphere in the politically turbulent decade following the outbreak of the French Revolution.
